It’s that time again. The Miami Beach New World Center has announced its lineup for the Fall 2013 season of its insanely popular FREE Soundscape Cinema Series. While it’s always nice to relax with a picnic basket on the beautiful Soundscape lawn, I can’t vouch for the lineup this fall which, to be frank, is an extremely underwhelming and bland selection. For starters, there are only 11 movies on the list this year – over a third of which are musicals. The others are an extremely overrated James Bond movie, the ultra-violent and polarizing Man of Steel, the two final Harry Potter installments, a 3.5 hour Biblical epic (butt ache alert), and a cheesy all-star disaster movie from the 70s.
The SoundScape Cinema Series screens free films on the 7,000-square-foot outdoor projection wall at the New World Center’s ExoStage, corner of 17th Street and Washington Avenue, Miami Beach. Movies usually are at 8 p.m. on Wednesdays. No films will be shown on Christmas Day and January 1st. The Spring season will commence on January 8 and that schedule is expected to be announced in late December. Let’s hope it’s a more exciting set of films than this lazy lineup.
