Miami Beach Soundscape Cinema Series Reveal Vastly Improved Spring 2014 Lineup

Now, that’s more like it! After putting out a largely underwhelming calendar of films during their Fall 2013 season, the Miami Beach New World Center have returned with a significantly improved lineup for the spring season of their popular Soundscape Cinema Series. The 2014 season, which began two weeks ago with the Elizabeth Taylor-Richard Burton classic Cleopatra (1963), will include public free showings of everything from musicals like Grease 2 (1982), Mary Poppins (1964) and Annie (1982) to major Oscar winners like Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln (2012) and The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) to classics like Lawrence of Arabia (1962), Strangers on a Train (1951) and Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961). Perhaps realizing how anemic their lineups looked without new movies, the Soundscape has stacked their new schedule with a slew of high-profile 2013 releases, including Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity, Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark WorldWorld War Z, Pacific Rim, Lee Daniels’ The Butler and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

The SoundScape Cinema Series screens free films on the 7,000-square-foot outdoor projection wall at the New World Center’s ExoStage, corner of 17th Street and Washington Avenue, Miami Beach. Movies start at 8 p.m. on Wednesdays (and occasionally, on Thursdays).

A word of advise: Pack the picnic baskets, wine and hors d’oeuvres and make sure you get there at least a half-an-hour before showtimes. Spots on the lawn fill up relatively quickly –especially for newer movies. Full schedule below:
